"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." -C.S. Lewis

2008 went by in a blur here at Christian Fiction Review. Updates continue to be more sporadic than I would like, but other ministry involvements often take precedence. At any rate, the site is still adding more than one new review per week on average, and the total number of books reviewed on this site now number well over 500.

Eight books this year received a 10/10 rating and all eight are listed below, along with two 9/10 ratings to round out the top ten. Choosing those two was a very difficult decision. There were a lot of good books in 2008.

Without further ado, here are the Best of 2008 as chosen by Christian Fiction Review!

Farraday Road
by Ace Collins

A brutal murder leads a small-town attorney into a deadly conspiracy. One of the best mystery/suspense novels in several years.

The Shape of Mercy
by Susan Meissner

One woman fights a stigma in the Salem Witch Trials. Two more are captivated by her diary in the present day. What factor links them all?

Fallen
by Matthew Raley

Frighteningly realistic. When Jim sees his pastor step out of a car with a woman who is not his wife, he is unable to get it out of his mind... and he is totally unprepared for what he finds when he pursues the matter.

Embrace Me
by Lisa Samson

Another classic from Lisa Samson. A pair of "freaks" encounter the power of redemption.

Winter Haven
by Athol Dickson

Athol Dickson turns to a dark, almost horrifying, mystery for his next beautiful and literary novel.

Skid
by Rene Gutteridge

The third book of the Occupational Hazards takes things to the unfriendly skies. Never has an airplane flight been more insane. Never!

Merciless
by Robin Parrish

The massive climax to the Dominion Trilogy. The heroes must rally against a literal hell on earth... and only the powerless can save them.

The Infinite Day
by Chris Walley

The spectacular conclusion to The Lamb Among the Stars series. An absolute triumph.

Waymaker
by Michael D. Warden

The long-awaited sequel to Gideons Dawn is finally here. The saga at last continues...

Havah: The Story of Eve
by Tosca Lee

A brilliantly-realized saga of the beginning of time on Earth.
